A Chinese Jewish family celebrates not one, but two new years—Rosh Hashanah in the fall and Lunar New Year in spring! Warm illustrations and a thoughtful look at the traditions of both holidays make this 2024 Sydney Taylor Book Award winner a perfect pick.
The Sydney Peace Prize recognises leading global voices that promote peace, justice and non-violence. This year, the award will be presented to Iranian-born human rights activist Nazanin Boniadi at Sydney Town Hall on Thursday 2 November. The Sydney Peace Foundation and its partners in peace, the University of Sydney and City of Sydney, encourage the community to come together to hear Ms Boniadi speak about her work for change in Iran and celebrate her achievements. Ms Boniadi will be joined by Australian-born Middle East political scientist Kylie Moore-Gilbert – recently released from 804 days of imprisonment in Iran – and journalist Shokoofeh Azar.
